The mission of the college department is to assist students in preparing for their future by seeking God's will for their lives.
What you can expect from the College Department
The college counselor will be available to students and parents to advise them in the admissions process. However the counselor will not tell students where they can or cannot apply, or where they shold enroll.
The counselor will schedule informative meetings for students and parents as needed. Junior/Senior College Night is held in September of each school year. In January, a financial aid workshop will be held for senior parents and students. Other informational meetings will be anounced.
The counselor will guide students in grades 9th-12th through the college admissions process. In the spring of the junior year, the counselor will meet with individual students and parents for spring conferences to map out the senior year.
The counselor will schedule college representatives to visit our campus allowing them to provide information to interested students.
The counselor will send a secondary report packet (which includes a school proifle, transcript, letter of recommendation and college forms) to all colleges the students have applied.
What is expected of the student
Students are to complete college admissions requirements and meet deadlines. The college department recommends all seniors to have their applications sent to colleges no later than November 1st.
Studenst are to meet with college representatives from colleges they are interested in when they visit our campus. Students will meet with the representative as a group or individually.
Students are to stay organized and remind themselves of deadlines and requirements during the college admissions process.
Students are encouraged to submit their college applications as well as scholarship applications at least a week before the deadline to ensure punctuality.
Students are to keep the college counselor informed of any developments in their college plans. Students are to provide the counselor with copies of their acceptance letters and scholarships letters so they can be placed in the student's permanent records.
Students are to select colleges in a realistic manner and apply to at least one "definite" school where they know they can get in and would like to attend.
Students are to be honest and ethical at all times during the application process.
Students are to notify the counselor as to what colleges they have applied and ask for their secondary report to be sent.
What is expected of parents
Parents should be encouraging during the college admissions process by supporting students and having open communication regarding their future.
Parents are encouraged to allow the student to do his or her own work in the admissions process.
Parents are expected to follow ethical practices during the admissions process
