Academic Philosophy
Classical Christian schools have been called a “pearl of great price” in education: greatly valued by those who understand its potential but largely unrecognized by those who do not. Our school is different because we start with a different mission.
The mission of Covenant Academy is to glorify God by teaching for mastery and training for servant leadership in the knowledge of God.
Classical Christian Education...
- Cultivates Christian Character
- Equips Ambassadors for Christ
- Inspires Great Ideas and Wisdom
- Trains to Think and Speak
Our Classical method is based in the tradition of the Trivium, part of the Liberal Arts tradition. This approach works with the age of the child through grammar (K–6th), logic (grades 7th–8th), and rhetoric (grades 9th–12th) to develop clear thinking and a masterful command of spoken and written language.
Each level utilizes children’s God-given strengths at each stage of growth; young children enjoy memorizing, singing, and rhymes, we implement memory devices in every subject to give them a thorough foundation of knowledge. Middle school students are inquisitive; we develop their ability to reason from their knowledge and discern truth. High school students are relational and communicative; we teach them how to present their ideas persuasively.
Covenant Academy is made up of the Grammar School (K3-6th Grade), the Logic School (7th-8th Grade), and the Rhetoric School (9th-12th Grade).
We Promote a Christian Community.
Covenant Academy is a community of parents and teachers who share a commitment for teaching children to love learning and to grow in godliness. Smaller class sizes ensure that teachers know their students and are better able to serve them individually. Students know they are loved and not just another face in the crowd.
Biblical standards of conduct are applied in all arenas of school life, acknowledging that Jesus Christ is Lord of all. Covenant acknowledges that God has given parents the responsibility for the education of their children and that we instruct those students under the parents’ delegated authority.
We Understand That All Education is Paideia.
Paideia is a Greek word that means to educate with the purpose of transforming culture. Your school's culture is shaping who your student will become. At Covenant, we are intentional about fostering a God honoring culture that cultivates leaders and thinkers to be excellent and influential for God’s Kingdom.
We Cultivate the Love of the True, the Good, and the Beautiful.
In our classical approach to learning, students are trained to recognize that God is the originator of truth, goodness, and beauty. As we learn more of who God is, we are able to see His character in the great works of art, literature, music, and throughout all subjects. Our faculty engage students with this knowledge, cultivating a love for learning and passion for what is true, good, and beautiful.
We Use a Biblical Framework to Understand Everything.
History, science, mathematics, philosophy, art, and other subjects are integrated around the truth that God is the Creator of all that exists, therefore, all knowledge is interrelated and points back to Him. Insert Video
We Enjoy Great Books, Art, and Stories.
Students engage great books and art containing rich stories that shape the soul, explore literary understanding, foster imagination and teach morality. A rich and nuanced command of language plays an unsung role in understanding God’s word, and in understanding our fellow man.
We Are Intentional About the Use of Technology in the Classroom.
The primary use of modern technology is immediate and expansive access to information. While this certainly has extensive application within academics, we believe that the primary purpose of education is more than just the acquisition of information: it is learning how to properly understand, interpret, and use information in virtuous and wise ways. As a Classical Christian School, Covenant utilizes technology as a tool to be shaped and molded by the user and not the other way around.
We Place a High Value on Order and Design.
The study of mathematics, geometry, astronomy, and music is done with praise, since the Lord, maker of all things, arranged the universe by number, weight, and measure. Classical education studies these four arts with reasoning, numbers, and quantities.
We Train Students to Lead with Eloquence.
We Encourage Hard Work.
Students are capable of achieving much more than is commonly thought. As a Classical Christian school, we have high expectations for student learning. Students learn to love the subjects that their teachers love and cheerfully follow the Godly example of their instructors. Our students experience the personal satisfaction that is inherent in mastering a difficult task.
